Why hello there....

Welcome to Unexpectedly Bald! I'm Kristina Crystal, a full-time corporate executive and part-time resiliency coach who's navigating the corporate jungle, the dating scene, and life in general, while trying to regrow my hair. This blog is the story of my journey... how I lost all my hair in 6 months after an encounter with COVID - and what I'm doing to regrow my hair and reclaim my life.

Let's get real

One minute you're rocking life, the next thing is you start to see your hair (and life) go down the drain, taking your confidence with it.  Denial was my co-pilot for a while, pretending everything was fine even as the evidence piled up - in my shower, on my brush, and on my shoulders. Tears, frustration, and countless "what the heck?" moments later, I finally faced the truth: my hair was saying goodbye, and I couldn't force it to stay.

Why are you telling me all this?

Why am I sharing this follicular freakshow with you? Because I already navigated that confusing wilderness of seeking a diagnosis and getting help, accompanied by way too many late-night Google spirals.  And I wasted way too much time in those early phases before finally figuring out what the heck was going on. You deserve to get to the answers, the solutions, the "Aha!" moment so much faster and not get bamboozled by those snake oil sellers.

Surprise:  It's more than just me and you

I also want to highlight that you're not alone. This hair-raising (pun intended) story isn't just mine. Countless women have whispered similar stories to me, each navigating their own unique version of hair hell. I'm here to be your bald-headed Sherpa, not just guiding you through the confusing diagnoses, but also sharing real experiences, cutting through the "miracle" product noise, and helping you make informed choices about your hair and your path forward.

Wrap your mind around it and move!

Kristina - May 2023

*This is me in May 2023.  My hair started falling out in June 2023, and I was bald by December 2023 ^

And just one more reason… There are soooo many products out there are promising to stop the hair loss and start the regrowth. Each treatment whispering hope, became a siren song in the fog of uncertainty. Every purchase felt like a desperate gamble, the fear of wasting precious time gnawing at my resolve. It was exhausting, a battle against hope and desperation, leaving me yearning for a clear path.

I've been there, thrown my hard-earned cash at many empty promises. But we're not doing that anymore. We're going to empower each other to make informed choices on the products and people that actually help, one sassy hairspray flip at a time.

So take a deep breath, friend. You're not alone in this.

You write a lot.  Where do I even start?

Buckle up and grab your virtual popcorn, because the best way to experience my story is chronologically, starting with the very first post. I know, I know, I didn't document every single falling strand as it happened, so the early chapters are a delicious blend of present-day sass and hindsight slapstick. Think of it like watching a movie with flashbacks that actually make sense (maybe).

Starting from the beginning unlocks the full comedic impact of my denial phase, the "whoa, is that a bald spot?" epiphany, and the hilarious desperation that fueled my quest for hair-saving solutions. So, dive in, dear reader, and follow the chronological trail of tears, laughter, and ultimately, bald-headed badassery. You won't regret it

Read my story from the beginning. Get ready for honest advice from your midwestern bestie, some real moments, and some have some fun with my journey so you can bring it to yours. Welcome to the follicular funhouse, where laughter is the best hairspray and we're not afraid to rock a wig (or bald spot) when the situation calls for it.

Let's do this!

P.S. In this space, I want to share my journey with you and inspire you to embrace your unique qualities and live life to the fullest. Whether it's through my blog, professional coaching, I'm here to motivate and support you. Let's unlock your full potential together!

P.P.S. Don't be shy! I thrive on your hair-raising (or hilarious) stories. So hit me up in the comments, type in your email below to subscribe, slide into my DMs (IG:  Unexpectedly_Bald), or send me a carrier pigeon with your follicular tales. Remember, we're in this together, one strand at a time (or none at all!).

P.P.S.S. (or however that works when there are multiples) I'm not a professional photographer, web designer or writer.  In fact, I don't even consider myself  a top-notch-amateur in any of those categories, so be gentle please.
